Women in Transition

What is WIT?

WIT (Women in Transition) is a new ministry being initiated by a group of people from Missio Dei Church who have a vision for assisting women who have the ability to make it on their own, but not the resources. These women include victims of domestic violence, women being released from prison, internationals who are trying to find their way, and those simply down on their luck.

Our vision is to create a means of supporting these women and their children that addresses the financial, practical, and relational needs of transitioning to independence and self-sufficiency.

What is our model?

Our approach to WIT is simple and based on proven techniques to assist those who are in transition. While we plan to offer both support groups and life-coaches to those who register in our program, at present, we are simply trying to raise awareness and resources to begin making a practical difference in the lives of woman and children in Portland. The women who are accepted into the program will be able to take out low interest loans that will be paid back over time. The reason we are providing loans instead of financial gifts, is because we believe this will provide and preserve self-dignity and personal ambition to experience a new way of life. Not to mention, the investment will be multiplied over time to assist and impact multiple lives.

Access to WIT funds will be limited to those who have made application through another non-profit in the Greater Portland Area in order to provide us with the necessary recommendations and assurances that the applicant meets the standards of WIT.

If you would like information about WIT or would like to donate funds, please email us at wit@mdchurch.org.
